Currently Berlin based duo Noblesse Oblige was formed in London in 2004 by German songwriter/producer Sebastian Lee Philipp and French actress, singer and songwriter Valerie Renay.
Their debut album Privilege Entails Responsibility (the English translation of the band name) was released in the U.K. in 2006. Its first single releases Bitch and Daddy (Don’t touch me there) quickly became indie club regulars throughout Europe. A Re-Release of the album is due in October 2009, containing unreleased bonus material and remixes.
Having re-located to Berlin in 2006, Noblesse Oblige released their second album In Exile in 2008. It was voted Record of the Week in several German and French music magazines and in Russia won the acclaimed Stepnoy Volk music award.
Noblesse Oblige have so far played over 300 Live shows all over Europe and South America, from art galleries and night clubs to festivals and large concert halls. They have toured with The Dresden Dolls, IAMX, Lydia Lunch and many others.
Since organizing their own club night Caligula in London between 2004 and 2007, Noblesse Oblige also regularly appear on the scene as DJs, including residencies at London’s Torture Garden and several bars and clubs in Berlin and Paris.
Besides her work as half of Noblesse Oblige, Valerie is a trained actress and has directed several theatre shows and art festival appearances around the world. Recently she has re-emerged in the Berlin art and performance scene as her alter ego Femme Façade. She also starred in Edwin Brienen’s arthouse movie L’amour Toujours (2008).
Sebastian is a music producer with his own Berlin recording studio in which he records and produces artists and writes film soundtracks. He also makes music as half of Der Räuber und der Prinz.
